"Damaged" is authored by Cathy Glass. It revolves around a true-life recount of her personal experience with Jodie, a shockingly disturbed 8 year old.
Cathy Glass has experience as a foster carer of 50 children over 20 years. She is divorced and has 3 children to herself - Adrian, Paula and Lucy, a teenager that she had cared for and adopted thereafter.
Jodie was a little devil incarnate, or so they called her. She has had a change of 5 foster carers over 4 months. Apparently, she drove them to their wits' ends. And Cathy, was her last chance to a final opportunity at life before they placed her in a children's home to waste away.
Jodie displayed extremely disturbing behaviour during her stay with Cathy. She smeared exretion on her face, masturbated openly in the home lounge, oblivious to the potential presence of a passerby; sweared obsceneties like "fuck" and "bitch" and performs sexual acts on her barbie dolls. Jodie was beyond control in the beginning. She went all out to physically hurt people, behaving like a porcupine, armouring herself with psycholigical weaponry. However, Cathy's noble patience and genuine love for the little girl resulted in the latter revealing her darkest and most painful secrets - reasons for her extreme behaviour.
Cathy Glass has successfully encapsulate the extreme ends human behaviour - the most cruel, satanic and perverse face; and the noble, generous and reverent side of the human nature, into this deeply moving story that can set you thinking like you never had.
